MARKHAM IRISH CANADIAN RUGBY CLUB APPOINTS NEW SENIOR MEN’S HEAD COACH
The Markham Irish Canadian Rugby Club today named capped Irish player Noel Reid as their new head coach, beginning a new era at their grounds on Austin Drive.
Born and raised in Dublin, Ireland, Reid, 33, has just finished his playing career with the Toronto Arrows in Major League Rugby and is now living in Toronto. His accomplished career includes 120 caps playing with Leinster, Leicester Tigers, Agen, London Irish and the Ireland national team.
“The on-field and locker room experience and skills that Noel has acquired with several
professional teams, under the tutelage of world class coaches, will be invaluable. With his
guidance and direction we expect to re-establish MICRC as a dominant force within the local
rugby community” commented the club’s Executive.
Reid had eight appearances for the Arrows in 2023 including leading them to their only win of
the season in Chicago and has also taken up a role helping with the Arrows Academy program.
"I’m really excited about joining Markham Irish as Head coach for 2024. I'm looking to bring the experience I've gathered from my playing career into coaching and my goal is to help get
Markham back to where they once were. The group are very ambitious about their club and
this excites me for the season ahead. Looking forward to getting started," said Reid.
The Markham Irish are currently holding winter indoor sessions at the Stouffville Sportplex on Saturday mornings and will begin their 2024 campaign in April.
