Something to Celebrate

2025 is a year of milestones. Markham Irish Canadian Rugby Club was
formed in 2010 as an amalgamation of the Irish Canadian Rugby Club, and
Markham Rugby Football Club. So, this year is the 15th anniversary of that
union. But, it’s also the 75th anniversary of the Irish, and the 45th
anniversary of Markham rugby. Something to celebrate!!
Along with celebrating rugby on an ongoing basis throughout the year, we
are inviting all of our alumni from the three entities to celebrate “Our club”
on Alumni Weekend.
June 13-14 is Alumni Weekend and will include lots of opportunities to
reconnect with old friends and teammates, and catch up with what’s new at
MICRC. Put it in your calendar!
Events will include a fun 9 hole golf tournament on Friday afternoon and
undoubtedly some good catch ups at old favored watering holes
afterwards. I can already hear the Duchess calling…
Saturday will center around the clubhouse with a breakfast and touch-rugby
game in the morning (don’t worry-it will be in slow motion). Club
rugby will take center stage in the afternoon with our men’s and women’s
teams doing battle on the pitch. We’ll have live music after the games and
a nice meal to wind down the day’s activities.
We’ll also be honoring past glories which include some recent inductions
into the Rugby Ontario Hall of Fame for both personal and team
accomplishments.
Details on all these activities will be unveiled over the next few days.
Plan to come out, catch up with old friends and help kick off an exciting
new era for Markham Irish rugby!
